Nintendo DS

The Nintendo DS is a gaming console which is hand-held and the latest product of Nintendo Corporation which was first introduced in 2004 in Japan, US and Canada. It has a clam shell design with two LCD screens, of which one is a touch screen. It also has a microphone built in and supports the Wi Fi standard which facilitates interaction between players within a short range. This was the first Nintendo game console to be released in America.

Its most defining characteristic is its touch screen which has helped developers to implement stylus controls into the games that helps the Nintendo DS retain its top spot as the best seller among portable game systems.

While Nintendo had almost a monopoly on the “Game Boy” breed of gaming system, the Nintendo DS Lite went on to become an even bigger success. Recently, Sony PSP and Apple’s iphone have made strong forays into the market albeit with limited success.

But the Nintendo DS continues to reign supreme for a number of reasons, most notably, due to the reason that it has a varied game library with virtually games which appeal to every age group. It is very easy to access and is the plug in and play type with no complications or hassles. It is light weight and easy to carry anywhere. It has lots of family friendly games thus making it the most popular gaming system with features others cannot boast of and which have helped it to remain on a higher pedestal than its competitors.
