Online multiplayer gaming services are provided by Nintendo to play freely DS Nintendo games and Wii games through Wi-Fi connection. This is separate from the shop
channel and shop game download services and contrived with the intention of giving a simple connection,
secure for use and free to play. These games offer internet play integrated into the game. It can
accommodate upto sixteen players on the DS and twice the- number on the Wii.

In 2008 a variant called Pay and Play was introduced which had additional content downloadable for which
additional fees are required. There is a feature in Wii called Wii
connect 24 which allows the system to be connected to the internet even when the gaming console is in
standby mode.
DS online games with Wi-Fi connection was kicked off with Mario Kart DS and Tony Hawk’s American Sk8land which were introduced in
2005 ensued with many others. It was the huge success of these versions that led to the introduction of
several more games in various countries and at present there are many Wii games, lots of Wiiware
games,numerous DS online games and a few DsiWare
games worldwide that support the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection system.
